This is the Portuguese language Twitter/Facebook social media feed for A-B-P Ministries (“Ministérios A-B-P” in Portuguese). The English version can be found here. Currently, these pages display travelogue pictures showing the beauty of the people of Angola, Brazil and Portugal along with their nations, interspersed with Bible quotes and posts from other “in-country” evangelical Christian ministries. A Portuguese language version of the A-B-P Ministries web site is planned for the future.
Here is how historically interconnected these three nations are:
Over 500 years ago, the Portuguese laid claim to what is now Brazil in South America. Around 75 years later, the Portuguese arrived to colonize the land we know today as Angola, on the African continent. As the transatlantic slave trade (sadly) flourished, Africans were sent to Brazil in the amount of twelve times those who were sent to America; about two-thirds of those people were from Angola. An old Portuguese saying is that without Angola, there would be no Brazil (and hence, no Portugal).
Later, when the Dutch attempted to settle in Angolan land, both Portugal and Brazil “re-colonized” Angola, giving Brazil a presence in Angola for around two centuries. When the Napoleonic invasions of Europe occurred, the Portuguese monarchy actually fled TO Brazil and ruled their nation from the latter; the two were a united kingdom for a time. Then after Brazilian independence, there was a strong move from within Angolan leadership to become an overseas province of Brazil, well before Angola became independent from Portugal in 1975!
Ministérios A-B-P’s adopted Bible verse is 1 Corinthians 2:9:
“However, as it is written:
‘What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived’—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—”
